When Mobility Solutions visited the Naidex event recently, there was a lot to see. Naidex is one of largest shows in Europe in the disability sector, attracting over 18,000 visitors from around the world. With a wealth of up and coming products on show and a bustling crowd, Naidex never disappoints.
One thing that piqued our interest, however, was the fantastic adapted mobility scooters used by members of the charity Little People UK (LPUK). The charity is a one-stop shop for all resources and support pertaining to dwarfism conditions and they drew quite a crowd, not least because of the famous face amongst them.
Little People UK was created by British actor Warwick Davis and his wife Sam in 2011. Warwick is a recognisable face on the big screen having been in such blockbusters as the Harry Potter and Star Wars franchises. He also lives with a form of dwarfism known as Spondylopiphyseal Dysplasia Congenita (SED). Since LPUK’s conception, the charity has grown exponentially.
Making Life More Comfortable
At Naidex, charity administrator, Rebecca showcased her fantastic adapted mobility scooter. Adapted from the best-selling Invacare Colibri scooter, Rebecca’s scooter had special adaptations to allow her to fit perfectly.
As the Colibri already has a petite frame, it didn’t take a lot of work to make it into something that Rebecca could benefit from. By shortening the tiler and seat post, the scooter was transformed to the ideal size for Rebecca, making it ideal for her use. Rebecca enthused;
“It was fantastic getting the scooter adapted for my needs. It’s my vehicle and I use it all the time so it was important that I was comfortable using it. The adaptation was a real game-changer.”
