Last month, Mobility Solutions welcomed a new face to the team.  Lewis came on board as part of a joint initiative between Mobility Solutions and local charity Possobilites.  Possobilities is dedicated to helping people with various disabilities live independent lives and has been tirelessly running in the North of Glasgow for over 33 years.  Mobility Solutions have been proud sponsors of the charity for over five years now.  When the idea of a work experience placement was suggested, Kieron MacFarlane,  retail manager of Mobility Solutions jumped at the chance to work together.  Kieron said;

“Mobility Solutions has been working with the local community since opening six years ago.  Creating work experience opportunities with Possobilities is a fantastic way to support the local community and help them gain independence through work.”

Lewis started on a one-day a week work experience placement that gives him a taste of how Mobility Solutions is run day to day.  From developing his essential skills such as; communicating with others, time management and teamwork Lewis has thrown himself into the role.  Lewis explained;

“I’ve learnt a lot so far.  Especially about making sure the store and all the products are clean and tidy, ready for customers to try them out.”

Lewis has especially found the technical side of the job to be most enjoyable, spending a lot of time with the team of qualified technicians who put him through his paces by teaching him the intricate workings of some of the powered products. Lewis enthuses;

“I love working with the products; taking them apart and putting them back together again.  I find it really easy and enjoyable.”

When Lewis isn’t swotting up on all there is to know about mobility scooters, powerchairs and other Mobility Solutions’ products, he’s a keen gamer who likes to relax playing video games on his X-Box.  He also is keen on watching films and spending time with friends.

James, a support worker for Possobilities explains the impact of Lewis working with Mobility Solutions. He explained;

“There are many young people in the local area who have additional support needs and sadly they don’t get the same opportunities to access employment as some others.  This is a fantastic opportunity for Lewis, especially as Allied is such a large and well-known company.”
