Glasgow’s disability community turned out in force for the tenth Ability Fest event, held at the Thistle Hotel.
Ability Fest is a free event and brings together local disability charities and organisations. All of the exhibitors offer support and advice to people with disabilities in the west of Scotland.
Disability Support
Many of the organisations involved offer useful information and advisory services. There was also a range of disability product suppliers, including Glasgow’s new disability superstore, Mobility Solutions.
There was entertainment too, in the form of performances from the brilliant Indepen-dance dance group. Indepen-dance is a charity that provides dance classes for those with different types of abilities. As well as this, there was a range of free workshops for visitors to attend. These included card making, drama, music, bead craft and tri-rugby. There was even a special Ability Fest cake for everyone to enjoy!
Mobility Products On Show
The Mobility Solutions stand had a selection of our products on display. These included wheelchairs, mobility scooters and walking aids, giving visitors a small taste of what the Mobility Solutions showroom has to offer.
Our competition was also a hit. Many show visitors were excited to enter our prize draw to win £500 worth of Mobility Solutions vouchers.
Event organiser, Deborah Whyte, commented: “It was a fantastic occasion for all. It’s such a special day, which greatly benefits our visitors on lots of levels. Most importantly it arms disabled people and their families and carers with information to help live interesting and fulfilling lives.”
Ability Fest
Founded in 1999, Ability Fest is a registered charity, centred on providing this unique event. The show has become increasingly popular over the years and now offers a unique opportunity for people living with disability in Glasgow and the West of Scotland. Held in a lively and supportive atmosphere it brings together charities and businesses focussed on meeting the needs of disabled people. These can include health, mobility, employment, leisure and social interests.
Ability Fest is now coordinated by the Glasgow Centre for Inclusive Living (GCIL).
Everyone here at Mobility Solutions is already looking forward to next year’s event!
