Andy Smashes World Record But Needs Your Help

Disabled Army Corporal Andy McIntosh, 42 from Strathaven, has just achieved a new world record by driving his mobility scooter from John O’Groats to Land’s End in the shortest time ever. However, Andy’s efforts of raising £5000 for his chosen charities still needs your help.

Fastest Journey

Andy achieved the “Fastest journey from John O’Groats to Land’s End on an Electric Mobility Vehicle (individual)” on 20^th May 2015 in an incredible 16 days and 8 hours.  Pending final ratification by Guinness World Records, this achievement by Andy has smashed the current record of 24 days and 9 hours.

Andy, who has a highly rare and inoperable vascular condition which limits his ability to walk, undertook the journey of over 1000 miles to raise money for several military charities that have helped him. These include Poppy Scotland, SSAFA, ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, Erskine and Soldiers off the Streets.

Extreme Weather Conditions

The challenge began on 5^th May 2015 at John O’Groats, where Andy set off from on his 8mph mobility scooter. A team of mobility engineers met him at various locations along the way to service his scooter and change the 30-mile range battery.

He had to tackle a wide variety of terrain on the journey, which took him through the Scottish Highlands and Cairngorms, down northwest England, through the Midlands, past the Cotswolds and into Cornwall.  The challenge was almost hampered by extreme weather conditions on several occasions, but Andy persevered, often travelling for over 8 hours at a time.

Amazing Achievement

Despite this amazing achievement, donations have not come in as Andy had hoped: “The last 16 days have been breath-taking for me. I have seen such amazing and varied scenery and met some remarkable people. However successful this world record attempt has been, unfortunately donations to my chosen military charities have been low. If you can, please donate.”
