The Disability Community has been chosen to take part in a TV competition that could win them up to £50,000 from the Big Lottery Fund – and they need your help!
Disability Community Bus
The People’s Millions 2014 takes place on the STV West evening news bulletin at the end of November. It will see The Disability Community go head-to-head with another group in a bid to win National Lottery funding for their ‘Disability Community Bus’ project.
If they win, the money will buy a specially adapted minibus to be used by disabled people across Glasgow. This would transform the lives of local disabled people and we’d love to see it happen!
Public Vote
The winner will be decided by public vote on Monday 24th November, so we’d like to encourage as many people as possible to pick up the phone and pledge their support! The phone number is available below and voting will be open from 9am until midnight.
The Disability Community was established in 1984 by disabled people in North Glasgow. Over the last 30 years it’s grown and developed into one of the most respected voluntary organisations in the city. The group provides essential support to disabled people of all ages and encourages understanding and acceptance of disability in all its forms.
Missing Out
Centre Coordinator Melanie Fyfe said: “If we win The People’s Millions it will enable us to provide reliable, secure and roadworthy transport to vulnerable, disabled and elderly residents of North Glasgow.
“We provide lunch clubs, jewellery classes, art classes, IT and youth clubs throughout the week and many other activities. At the moment the transport we provide is limited and we can’t transport wheelchair passengers, so some of our members are missing out.
“Our current buses are really old and winning this money would mean so much to us as it would enable us to purchase a new disabled access minibus immediately.”
