Local charity the Disability Community had a great end to 2014. The North Glasgow voluntary organisation won a public vote for just under £50,000 from the People’s Millions lottery to go towards a new specially adapted minibus. The fundraising never ends though and now the charity is heading to the Blochairn Car Boot Sale, on 8th February, with the hopes of raising more vital funds to go towards their centre.
New Equipment and Resources
Claire Nisbet said: “As a charity run organisation we have to fundraise throughout the year to cover the cost of new equipment and resources. This allows us to provide the best possible support and experiences for our members who have a disability. We’ve decided to hold a car boot sale because, after all, one man’s junk is another man’s treasure!”.
The Disability Community is one of the most respected voluntary organisations in Glasgow, providing essential support to disabled people of all ages. It also works to encourage understanding and acceptance of disability in all its forms. Whilst the charity’s big win has given a welcome boost and helped towards the provision of transport for its members, additional help is also needed to fund the work of the charity and activities held at the centre such as youth clubs and art classes.
