Mobility Solutions was delighted to help with a Facebook appeal from Andrew’s Journey, by servicing a mobility scooter donated by a kind follower.
Andrew’s Journey is a great source of support for men struggling with baby loss or mental health issues. While it’s not a registered charity, the Facebook group helps raise awareness and money for other charities and also help individual cases who reach out to them. Andrew stated: “We have regular contact with folk struggling with metal health issues and continuing to support them and their families.”
The Kindness Homeless Street Team charity in Glasgow put out a request to help one of their regular visitors to their soup kitchen, who was struggling with reduced mobility and was worried about getting out and about. A generous follower then donated a mobility scooter, Andrew selflessly went to pick it up and brought it to us, and we carried out a scooter servicing and donated two batteries to make sure it was ready to go!
Andrew got in touch with Sarah, our Branch Manager to see if Mobility Solutions could help. She said: “I knew our servicing team would make sure the mobility scooter was ready for the gentleman to start using, so I got in touch with Andrew. We carried out a thorough service and replaced two batteries when Andrew brought it into our store in Glasgow. It was lovely to meet him and we were so pleased we could help with this lovely appeal.”
More About Andrew’s Journey
After suffering a mental breakdown in 2019, 36-year-old Andrew Feeney’s life changed dramatically. Many things hit Andrew at once – had lost seven members of his family, his home, he stopped seeing his children and he was told that he had lost a baby. After turning to drugs and alcohol – which didn’t help – Andrew admitted himself into hospital, but after an altercation with another patient after they stole some of his possessions, Andrew was refused anymore treatment and discharged.
Andrew decided to push through and do something good – he started walking in hopes he could raise awareness for baby loss and men’s mental health. Andrew felt that walking was great for his thought process and set off for Land’s End in Cornwall with his dog, Kai. He started his Facebook page to keep everyone up to date with his progress and he also managed to meet up with supporters, sharing his stories and theirs. Sadly, he had to be admitted into hospital in Wigan due to a leaking heart valve and hasn’t yet managed to complete the walk because of the pandemic.
He regularly updates his Facebook page, goes live to chat to everyone and supports charities far and wide. He even hosts a men’s support group and runs a walking group. We were delighted to work with Andrew so we could help someone in need and hopefully travel many miles in his new mobility scooter.
