At Mobility Solutions we love giving back to the community in whatever way we can. Recently, we’ve been able to help a local man remain active by donating a wheelchair.

We were approached by Possilpark Community Centre members Hannah and Billy, who were desperately searching for a way to help their friend Stephen continue contributing to his community after he was sadly diagnosed with terminal cancer. Hannah and Billy, a student and volunteer respectively, work with the Possilpark Community Centre and Link Up project, looking at the assets and skills available and building groups that can utilise them.
Stephen is an integral part of the centre’s Inner Circle Men’s Group and the local community and his illness has had a devastating impact. He has been responsible for organising and helping with a number of projects including a community garden and Possilpark’s Children’s Inclusion Partnership.
“The wheelchair will provide Stephen with the opportunity to make the best of a horrible situation and provide him with the means to continue getting out and about.”
Over the moon
Due to the nature of his condition, the NHS wouldn’t provide a wheelchair, so Stephen has been unable to get out and about and be as involved as he would like.
Hannah and Billy had spent months looking for a suitable wheelchair that could be donated, and were over the moon when they found out we were willing to help completely free of charge.
Hannah said: “The kindness of Mobility Solutions has moved us to tears. We’d been looking for a wheelchair for months before approaching the shop. We hadn’t even let Stephen know we were looking because we were afraid we wouldn’t find one. When we received the chair we surprised him with it and he was lost for words and humbled by the generosity of Mobility Solutions. We can’t thank them enough.”
Hugely important
Link Up Programme Co-ordinator, Gillian Halliday, said: “The wheelchair will provide Stephen with the opportunity to make the best of a horrible situation and provide him with the means to continue getting out and about. Under the circumstances, this is hugely important to his emotional well-being.
“The wonderful support of Mobility Solutions will never be forgotten.”
