Am I Eligible?
If you are in receipt of the enhanced or higher rate Mobility component of DLA, PIP, War Pensioners’ Mobility supplement or Armed Forces Independence Payment and have at least 12 months remaining on your award, you are eligible to lease a mobility scooter or a powerchair on a Motability contract.
What Does the Motability Scheme Include for Mobility Scooters and Powerchairs
For a weekly amount starting around £20, you can enjoy worry-free independence. The Motability Scheme covers insurance, breakdown recovery, annual servicing and all wear and tear items like batteries and tyres.
If your product is ever off the road for repairs, you will be provided with a courtesy product to keep you mobile.
How Do I Lease a Mobility Scooter or Powerchair on the Motability Scheme?
The process is simple and begins with a visit from one of our team who will help you choose your product and complete the application with you.
You can lease anything from a lightweight portable scooter to a powered wheelchair with custom seating.
Part of your mobility allowance will be transferred to Motability to cover the cost of your lease. The remaining balance will be paid directly to you by the Department for Work and Pensions.

If you have been transferred to CDP or ADP with Social Security Scotland, you are now able to choose from a range of made-to-measure manual wheelchairs and powered add-ons for the first time. This gives you the flexibility of a lightweight manual wheelchair which can be adapted to add power when needed.

You will need to return the mobility scooter or powerchair, but options can vary depending on your individual situation.
Can I Travel Abroad with My Mobility Scooter or Powerchair?
Yes, however you will need to notify the Motability Scheme before you travel and can only take the product abroad for up to 30 days over a 12-month period. You will also need to check your insurance cover as you will not be covered for breakdowns or accidents outside the UK.
