Taking Care of Your Powerchair or Scooter

At Mobility Solutions we provide an extensive selection of powerchairs and mobility scooters.  These play an essential part in helping people get out and about, so it’s important to keep them in tip-top condition.

With the weather beginning to improve and summer just around the corner, here are some tips to help ensure your chair or scooter is ready for making the most of the longer days!

Peace of Mind

For peace of mind when going out on a long trip, always make sure you check the following before leaving home:

  • If your chair or scooter is battery powered, make sure the battery is fully charged before you go out;
  • Check any electrical parts such as lights or indicators to make sure they’re working; and
  • If you have air-filled tyres, ensure they are fully pressurised.

Regular Checks

Taking good care of your powerchair or scooter and performing regular checks will reduce the risk of a breakdown.  Make sure you never miss an annual service and keep it dry and stored safely when you’re not using it.  Avoiding hazards such as potholes, puddles and broken glass will also go a long way to keep your chair or scooter in good condition.

However, sometimes breakdowns can’t be helped and it’s important to know what to do.  If you purchased your chair or scooter from Mobility Solutions and you come across an issue with it whilst you’re at home, you can give us a call on 0808 252 5587.  We’ll ask you a few simple questions over the phone and if necessary we can visit you, perform some checks, and arrange its repair as soon as possible.

Recovery Service

If you purchased your item through the Motability Scheme then Motability Assist can help get you home safely if you have any issues whilst out and about.  This recovery service is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.  If you find yourself stuck, simply call Motability Assist on 0800 953 5000 (we recommend saving this number in your phone), let them know where you are and they will arrange a suitable recovery solution.  This might be a local supplier of specialist vehicles or taxis.  Once home you can get in touch with us about repairing your product.  Keep in mind that Motability Assist only covers you within the UK, so if you’re going on holiday abroad you’ll need to make alternative arrangements.
