We’re the award-winning disabled access charity, known for our website EuansGuide.com, where disabled people can find and share accessible places to go.
In addition to our website, we work to make accessible toilets safer with our Red Cord Cards. Too often, emergency cords are wrapped around grab rails, tied up, or stowed out of reach, which defeats their purpose. Our cards attach easily to emergency cords and explain why they must remain unobstructed. To date, tens of thousands of our cards have been distributed, which we like to think has made tens of thousands of accessible toilets safer.
We’re also proud to run the UK’s largest and longest-running accessibility survey, which is currently open until the end of November. The survey provides valuable insights into the experiences of disabled people across the UK, covering everything from accessibility to public transport and even our new government.
Who is Euan?
Euan MacDonald MBE was a warm, funny and much-loved man. He loved to spend his time with family and friends, was a rugby fan and keen adventurer.
In 2003, aged 29, Euan was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND), and devoted his life to advancing MND research and improving accessibility for disabled people.
After his diagnosis, Euan relocated from London to Edinburgh to be closer to family and to actively support MND research efforts.
In 2006, he and his father Donald founded the Euan MacDonald Centre for MND Research and launched the Voicebank Project, now known as SpeakUnique, which allows people to communicate in their own voice when natural speech is not possible.
Ten years after his diagnosis Euan and his sister Kiki launched Euan’s Guide in 2013, creating a platform for disabled people, their friends, families, and carers, to share their experiences. Our award-winning charity has since become a valuable resource for disabled people in the UK and beyond, with tens of thousands of visitors looking for great places to go every month
In August of 2024, aged 50, Euan passed away after living with MND for 21 years. This is a loss our small charity feels deeply, we now continue our work and carry on an incredible legacy.
