Today is World MS Day, and Disabled Go are hoping to raise as much awareness as possible.
Annual Campaign
The annual campaign brings the MS community around the world together through a range of events and activities to give them the opportunity to share their stories. It’s the only event of its kind and aims to raise awareness of Multiple Sclerosis.
MS is a neurological condition which affects the lives of over 2 million people around the world – around 100,000 of which are in the UK. It’s caused by damage to the coating around nerve fibres, causing a range of symptoms depending on the part of the central nervous system that is affected and the function of the damaged nerve.
Highlights Access
The theme of this year’s World MS Day is ‘ACCESS’ which highlights access to diagnosis, treatment and support, access to buildings, travel and leisure facilities, and access to education, training and employment. Events are being held all over the country including a fun run in Melrose and a roadshow in Fife. Check the World MS Day website for more details.
DisabledGo are also campaigning for people with disabilities such as MS to be able to enjoy visiting new places and experiencing new things, without the worry of accessibility. They’ve set up detailed access information online for over 125,000 venues and attractions across the whole of the UK and Ireland. The information is completely free, and each venue has been surveyed, assessed and approved by a trained DisabledGo surveyor.
